One of a Kind piece
Hand-woven rug by Zapotec artist : Ricardo Garcia
The Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca area (Mexico), known as "people of the clouds" raise sheep, hand card, spin their wool and dye the yarn using colorfast vegetal, mineral or insects and aniline dyes. Using time-honored traditions dating from 500 B.C, they hand-weave each rug creating a one-of-a-kind piece with designs ranging from traditional to contemporary.
Today, these 100% wool rugs are hand-woven on an upright pedal loom. Depending of their sizes, some pieces can take weeks even months to weave.
