Handmade drum in pine wood and cowhide, beautifully hand-painted with a divinity important to Native culture: the Yei.

In Navajo mythology, the Yei are supernatural entities who inhabited the earth at the beginning of the world. But when humans arrived, the Yei, before disappearing, taught them how to make life on earth easier in many areas. The flat-headed Yei is a feminine entity, while the round-headed Yei is masculine.

The artists of the village of Taos have been making drums for centuries. Their craft is internationally recognized, and they also make drums for ceremonial musical instruments, children's toys and interior decorations.

Taos Pueblo drums are renowned for their quality, thanks to the artists' mastery of woodworking, skin stretching and drying.
