Mountain lion (cougar) sculpted in mother-of-pearl with black-jet eyes.

A string of lapis lazuli, coral, turquoise and amber beads are strung on dried sinew around her back, giving her strength and protection.

The mountain lion is a leading and lonely animal that is symbol of power and rapidity.


In a time when the Zuni tribe lived from agriculture and hunting, the hunters couldn't do without these amulets and would never forget to bring them during their expeditions. The fetishes assure benevolence of the soul. Each animal represents its spirit, its own inner force and protects its owner.
