The Wedding Vase

The "wedding vase" (or "wedding pot") is probably the most popular Native American pottery. It is a vase given to the bride and groom for their wedding. According to tradition, this pottery must be made by the groom's godmother and must be filled with water in which sacred stones have been bathed. The filled vase is then given to the bride and groom and each of them must drink in turn through one of the two necks.

The particularity of this vase is indeed that it has two vase necks (representing the spouses) joined by a handle (in the image of their union). The circle formed by these elements symbolizes the common life of the spouses.

You can find at Harpo a selection of traditional wedding vases, if not in our category Decorations, then contact us, we will certainly have some in our shop.
