One of a Kind piece
Stunning Pueblo Kewa necklace featuring Heishi beads in Cerillos turquoise (New Mexico) and fifteen stones inlaid hummingbird feathers, coming with its earrings.
These hummingbird feathers are inlaid with serpentine, Zuni stone, black-jet, apple coral, marble, turquoise and pipestone, on a black-jet background.
This gorgeous set is a true work of beauty, representative of the great work of the Kewa artist who created it. His inlaid hummingbird feathers are true symbols of his talent. The hummingbird is a fetish bird that embodies joy, life and love.
The Pueblo artists are known as early representatives of Native jewelry as we know it today. For over a century, they have been making jewelry from natural materials (stones, shells, wood...).
As for Heishi beads, the process is long and meticulous: stones, shells or other raw materials are first cut, then pierced and threaded onto a wire. The artist then grinds this strand on a grinding wheel to form the Heishi pearls. The quality of genuine Heishi pearls can be recognized by their uniformity and smoothness to the touch.
