Beautiful necklace made of Campitos turquoise (Mexico) Heishi beads and oxidized sterling silver beads, with a central pendant representing a hummingbird made of jasper, turquoise and apple coral, with a silver beak.

This lovely necklace is representative of many Native American jewelry skills: 

- The sterling silver beads are hand-crafted and then oxidized for an nice contrast.

- Heishi beads are meticulously crafted over a long period of time: the turquoise is first cut, then pierced and strung on a wire, then the artist grinds this strand on a grinding wheel to form the Heishi beads. The quality of genuine Heishi beads can be recognized by their uniformity and smoothness to the touch. 

- The hummingbird is assembled by hand after hand-carving the jasper, turquoise and apple coral. The final touch is provided by the small inlaid jet dots that create its eyes, and the silver tip that serves as its beak.
