Hopi ring hand-carved of a bear paw, made with the Overlay technique.
 

The bear is an emblematic wild animal of the South-Western part of the USA. It is symbol of strength and power. The bear track is a good omen. In this one, we can see here the pattern of white sage (sacred herb).

The overlay is an emblematic process of Hopi silversmithing. It includes a background soldered to another like-sized piece with a cutout design. The silver background is then oxidized and scratched to bring out contrast between the two pieces.
