One of a Kind piece

Hopi ring in sterling silver and 14K gold, depicting a Pueblo village.

This silver ring is made using the Overlay technique.

This process consists of two flat pieces of the same size, nested one on top of the other. The top piece is cut with a pattern and acts as a “stencil”. It is applied to the bottom piece, creating a silver background. This background is oxidized and scraped to create contrast between the two pieces.

Here, the artist has depicted a traditional village, the Pueblo, recognizable by its small flat-roofed houses (Adobe houses). Four small 14K gold points can be seen against the black oxidized sky.
