This stunning Navajo ring is representative of the "micro-inlay" technique, of which the artist is a real expert: On a great black-jet background, he has created a mythological figure and various astral symbols in different semi-precious stones such as turquoise, coral, opal and serpentine. The whole is surrounded by several small silver dots.
Each element is meticulously hand-carved and then assembled to create the overall design desired by the artist. The whole is polished, for a smooth and elegant look, and in this case, with unparalleled details.
The scene represented here is inspired by the theme of the "Night Chants", which are performed during nine nights in winter. These ceremonies are led by dancers with squared faces and high headdresses, who personnifies the Yei'bi'chei (Navajo holy people).
Dimension of the inlay (L x w) : 2,5cm x 1,3cm
(1 inch x 0.1/2 inch)
This ring is in sterling silver.
