Beautiful Hopi ring in sterling silver, featuring squash blossoms and butterflies.
This ring was created by a renowned Hopi artist, who mastered a Native American jewelry technique known as overlay.
This process consists of two flat pieces of the same size, nested one on top of the other. The top piece is cut with a pattern and acts as a “stencil”. It is applied to the bottom piece, creating a silver background. This background is oxidized and scraped to create contrast between the two pieces.
The squash is an ancestral and essential foodstuff, and its flower is an iconic symbol of Amerindian culture and jewelry. The butterfly represents grace, blossoming and metamorphosis.
